I've lent my Signet to one of the pit players doing 'West Side Story' - he called me the other week as he got the silk pullthrough (one without a tail) completely stuck in the top joint. The end must have folded back onto itself while being pulled through.
He brought it round so I could drill and push it out with no harm done to the bore. I replaced the pullthrough with a couple of wooden-handled mops - I tested the handles to be sure they don't come off.
All the silk swabs I've seen have an interlocked edge which is too thick - they're fine on d'amore and cor, but too thick for oboes as there's a lot of resistance felt when pulling them through the top joint bore.
