if it really was that awful, my guess is ob1 isn't remembering their playing with especial fondness, if that were you in this situation, what would you want your friend to do about it?

are you cultivating a meaningful friendship? Do you get together on your own just to play favourite pieces -- or Christmas songs -- for fun?

As amateurs you're on equal footing, not in competition (except maybe in your own mind) and who else is there at orchestra but yourselves who have the gen on oboes? You two need to share with each other and learn about oboe and playing and reeds from each other ...

perhaps a seasonal gift of a new reed from your favourite brand might be appropriate, just make sure it's not too hard compared to Rico
