Well, you said it yourself: since you're all there for enjoyment, not to attempt to sound professional. And thus, you're stuck with the situation. It's not your place to tell her "your reed sucks". About all you can do is make tactful suggestions, "You know, I find that X brand of reed is very easy to blow..." You're not even in a position to tell her, "You know, your solo would sound much better on a different reed", because that's a teacher's place to offer a critique like that. Does she have a teacher?
My guess would be that there's a good amount of inertia involved in her choice of reed--perhaps it's too much trouble to send away for other brands of reed, not to mention the expense, and these play okay for her in her opinion, so, she thinks, why change?
Is she playing on European or American scrape reeds? I can recommend some inexpensive, decent-quality American scrape reeds that are easy to blow (Fox and Edmund Nielsen, also Gower which are very light and responsive, although their prices suddenly went up), but she'd have to send away across the pond for them.
