I started playing trombone last year. Don't know too much about it yet so could be very wrong here. As far as I can see there is no point at all playing an A to the trombones. Their fundamental notes are Bb and F at the bottom of the instrument so have to tune to a note they hear in their head after the A sounds anyway. There after most notes they play are on the slide. Never have been able to understand this.
