Exactly mschmidt and oboedrew! I think that as players it is almost impossible to distinguish certain characteristics from each other. Yet another dimension of oboe reed making! Wonder what else I might be confusing?

I definitely concur with the idea of dark/flat and sharp/bright now that I think about it. However, as has been said here before, dark usually just equals good and bright bad. Does that imply it's better to be flat than sharp? Hah!
