Hello!
Well, it's nice to know that there is someone else out there that is in the same boat that I am! I happen to be a Sophmore as well and I have recently changed to the oboe after playing flute and clarinet for years! This is where I think that I can help you! I switched my Freshman year of High School! So I have just gone through what you are about to go through.
My Advice~
* Start with a medium-soft reed! (preferably long scrape)
* Take the time to realize that it is not the amount of air, but the pressure that you use
* Don't be upset if you sound like a deranged goose at first! After you work for a while that will go away!
*Have confidence in yourself! You can do this!
*Don't feel stupid because you mess up or are not up to speed with everyone else! this kind of attitude only makes things worse!
~Good Luck!
