I would reccomend buying medium hard reeds. DO NOT buy Fibercane under circumstances. It will produce a horrible sound. Medium hard reeds aren't bad but eventually you'll want to begin reed making. It is good that your going to take lessons. I played flute before oboe,kind of, I had to teach myself the fingerings, but from what I can gather the fingerings are similar. Hold your oboe like a flute and compare fingerings to a fingering chart and you'll notice some patterns. Good Luck!
