Off the top of my head, Dutchy, I'd have to guess it's the oboe, not the reed.
I mean, that's what changed, right?
And to elaborate my guess, I'd say that the lovely loaner probably has some leaking issues.
Can you get the top joint to "pop" for you? (Using only the top joint, cover all the normal finger touches plus cover the bottom of the tenon with your free hand. Suck *in* through the top of the instrument. Does it create a vacuum? How long does the vacuum hold? If you do this, and then suddenly release your free hand, do you get a "pop" of air?)
