I'm going to be contradictory and suggest that it may not be leakiness. Having played on a leaky oboe for years, I know that the chief difficulty with leakiness is that the low notes don't speak, all the long-pipe notes are a bit balkier, and one tends to make reeds that have a lot more tip to them in order to compensate. I don't think that leakiness wears out the embouchre that much more, except maybe to control the somewhat wilder reed. But this is not a changed or adjusted reed. Dutchy doesn't mention any balkiness in the lower range.
So my guess is that there may be intonation or timbre issues that are causing Dutchy, subconciously, to compensate with his embouchre, and that's what's wearing him out.
