Re: Why is this reed so tiring with this oboe and not this other oboe?

I fixed the gurgle. I figured out that the E didn't gurgle if I held down the vent key above it with an extra finger, so I got out my teeny screwdriver and tightened that screw just a bit, and lo and behold the bubble on the E went away. So I did the same thing to the low C, ascertaining that the only possible screw could be the one on the low B, and it was. And now the D plays, too.

Go me. [grin]

And now I feel MUCH better about my beginning oboe playing in retrospect, because unless I miss my guess, this is the identical oboe I started off with as a rental instrument two years ago, and it gurgled on the low notes back then, but I of course blamed my beginner's embouchure, and was very discouraged for a while.

Whilst playing this morning, I listened to myself, and realized that the mid-C stands out like a fire siren on it every time it comes around, ("tootle-tootle-WAH -tootle-WAH WAH- tootle-tootle- WAH") and I was automatically struggling to modify it every time, which requires a LOT more effort than with my Fox.

I want my baby back. :(

Now I see why people own multiple oboes--because once a year, you're gonna have to make do with a loaner. Gah.
