I'm siding with lots of other folks who posted on this discussion. You have to have AT LEAST two good (or at least playable) reeds in your box at all times. Period. If you can afford to have more, then have more. But playing on a cracked reed is just unacceptable. I have scolded many oboe students on this subject.

Simple equation: cracked reed=garbage (but keep the staples, you will eventually be able to reuse them to practice your reed making).
