For old reeds, cracked reeds, bad reeds, etc., I like what John Mack suggested.... make a staple out of it.
I agree with others... there are many good sources of decent reeds these days.
Forests, Weber, Covey, Willingham, Dunkle, ..... and it goes on....
Get a supply of 5 reeds minimum... replace as one goes to a better place.
And once you reed case is full, rotate reeds... it will do two good things for you.
1) Make the reeds last longer
2) Teach your embouchure how to deal with variations in reeds.
Good luck, carry on, do not despair... just buy some decent reeds.
(Try to find a local source or at least one with equivalent relative humidity and similar elevation. I lived in Florida for 5 years before Colorado and reeds really need different treatments between such extremes.)
