it's hard to say what to do about other winds who don't understand that they're supposed to adjust to your pitch (or maybe they're tone-deaf, which is worse). one suggestion would be to wait til they fade and then play your 440 again just to leave the last pitch lingering in everyone's ears. here's another etiquette question: what should the 2nd oboe do? my suggestion is to either not overplay the 1st oboe's A, which creates confusion, or tune using a relative pitch (middle D, say). Since an oboe can't be tuned other than to change reeds, it makes little sense for the 2nd oboe to tune at the same time as the other instruments, and certainly not to overplay the A. At least that's what I do when I play 2nd, and when I play first I find it very irritating to be overplayed! Anyone else experience this?
