If the reed has worked, and has been used, then there is generally no reviving it. Usually I will keep these reeds for an unusual emergency. (i.e. busy week, hardly enough time to even sit down to the reed desk)
If the reed has never been used yet, because it has never felt finished, or it was too soft/hard...*these* reeds I might keep a long time, but only if there isn't anything else wrong with them. Often, a reed like these will come to life later on.
Otherwise, in a productive reed-making cycle, the "dead" reeds must usually sacrifice their tubes to the new fresh reeds awaiting birth.
