Hi --
I got my Yamaha 411P on Ebay, and it is a jewel. It was a lightly-used one owner instrument that had already had all its pads corked, and it is perfect. I paid $1175 for it. The "P" in the serial number means the upper joint is plastic (resin), while the lower joint is wood. I did this because I will have to play outdoors from time to time, and frankly, I didn't want the hassle of worrying about the upper joint cracking.
I see used Yamahas on Ebay from time to time. They are not as commonly available as some other brands, but they are there.
There is a place in Minneapolis that seems to have good used oboes -- International Music Suppliers is the name, I believe. I think they just do oboes and double reeds. They will send instruments out on approval.
Best wishes to you.
