Really? That's interesting! Thanks for the note Ken. I know Stacey doesn't enjoy his oboe and gets easily frustrated with it. Go figure. Guess he prolly wants the extra low notes.
Edit: Sorry to be a jerk, but are you sure you've seen Mr. Stacey play oboe in the NYP? I've never seen him play oboe in the NYP. I've known him for close to 10 years, and he's never talked about playing oboe specifically in the NYP. If there's a Mahler or something that requires four oboes, they bring in someone off their sublist, which is like 4 or 5 players deep.
I think there's some union rule that if you are hired specifically for an auxilary instrument only, the symphony does not need to require you to play the other instrument, but I've been out of the union for a while.
