Hi Olivia,
There are a lot of opportunities for oboe and bassoon out there. Especially for high school students in Sydney and Canberra.
The ADRS (Australasian Double Reed Scoiety) has branches in both cities and runs events through the year, the last Sydney event was just last weekend at Sydney Grammar School.
If you want advice from current teachers and people in the area, have a look at the web site and contact our state representative, they will be MORE than happy to email you and/or have you come in and talk about playing... that's what the society is all about !!
There is a teachers page for contacts on the web site and your local representative could also help you with instruments, there used to be a scholarship with the Sydney Youth Orchestra ( back when i was younger) for Bassoon players, where they supplied an instrument for a year so you could try it out ?? Perhaps this is still available.
