Olivia -
Very few band or orchestra pieces have a cor anglais part. No band pieces have an oboe d'amour part, and it's exreremely rare in the orchestra.
Nobody in the world plays cor anglais exclusively, even in the major symphonies. Only one person in the world, Jennifer Paull, plays oboe d'amour exclusively, and she makes her living at another job.
Finally, there are are no student quality oboes d'amour or cors anglais. You (i.e., your parents) would have to spend several thousand dollars to get you one.
Every oboe d'amour or cor anglais specialist plays oboe most of the time, and there's no job that doesn't require it.
Take up the oboe. Period.
Finally, a life lesson. Clasp your enemy to your heart. You need every friend you can get. Do her random acts of kindness until she gives you some back. If you're going to be a member of any group, you need to get along with everyone, and turn enemies into friends. The time to learn and practice this is now.
