There is a useful technique which is the opposite of the technique described in an earlier posting for half-hole D to low D. While playing the E flat, slide the half-hole finger (L1) back over the half-hole in advance of the move to G. The E flat can usually be sustained in the same octave once it is established without a half-hole opening merely by maintaining the breath support and embouchure, and the advanced closing of the half-hole eliminates the potential 'blurp' in the transition to the lower octave G.
