My Loree AK weighs 708 g.

I would think a FHRED is a very good answer to the weight problem. It also gives a good balance but takes a bit of getting used to.

IMHO, I believe the sound, evenness of tone and projection are more important than the look and weight of an instrument. That said, the exotic woods are indeed beautiful!

But after all, you don't really see the oboe while you are playing..... and there are so many devices available to help with weight.....
