Try using a thumbrest cushion (like the Yamaha type) these have a thick and thin side and can make a difference in the way the oboe balances. I use one on all my oboes and clarinets that are played without a sling, not only are they more comfortable for the right thumb, they alter the point of balance (or 'fulcrum') - so having the thumb slightly lower down the bottom joint can make a significant difference.
But as long as the relation between the thumb position and fingers and the keywork is comfortable without feeling you're having to stretch, and oboe fingerplates are spaced pretty wide in comparison to other instruments of a similar size which only complicates ergonomic issues further.
As for the photo of Marigaux bells, from left to right (to me it looks like) - blackwood, cocobolo, kingwood, blackwood and blackwood.

The opinions I express are my own.
