Ok. I now have a FiberCane brand reed, and that is working a little better than my earlier Jones reed. I can now play through the first two octaves on my rented oboe, and it is beginning to actually SOUND like an oboe now that I am continually figuring out how to control the tips of the reed.
I am having a good deal of trouble getting articulation, though. Every time I try tonguing I get spit INSIDE the reed. How on earth can I put my tongue on the reed and not get spit in it. (Afterwards, it makes a gurgling sound when I play, until I pull the reed out, blow from the cork-end, and then put it back -- and I know this cannot be par for the course.)
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanx for everyone's help thus far.
I am actually enjoying it.
