Try a harder reed. I get my best sound on a Medium reed, but it is harder to blow than a Medium/soft.
I am not suprised that a Jones reed won't crow a C natural. I have a new Jones soft reed that is closed and won't crow at all. The other strengths crow at different pitchs other than C natural.
