Thanx for the article, Clarence.
Wow. I'm still working my way through that one. I feel like I'm in graduate school again!
I have started getting more of an oboe sound out of it now. With more practice I found that I had to use my lips to get more control of the reed tips, and not let them do their own thing. I also found I needed to lessen the pressure I was applying to the reed.
So -- I think I have found a reed for my first few weeks. After that, I'll order a couple of handmade student reeds from one of the on-line double-reed stores. Then I'll know I should (repeat, should) have something suitable.
Thanx to everyone for their advice so far. I'll let you know how it goes.
