Sensitivity goes out the window when you're trying to make yourself heard above the band! This arrangement is too heavily scored for a single oboe to compete with what's going on behind them.
The 'Casta Diva' arrangement (which sadly wasn't filmed) was much better in that players dropped down to one or two players per part, so in an amateur concert band (where some players don't have much dynamic control or finesse - or musicality!) the danger of getting drowned out is less.
Goossens is the other oboist I admire next to Holliger, so there's definitely loads of inspiration to be taken from both players, add to the mix Maurice Bourgue and you have the holy trinity of 20th Century oboists.
What I look for in a reed is control - if I can't make a diminuendo right down to nothing, then that's a reed that lacks control and has to be adjusted. After the most recent concert the euphonium player said I had a lot of command and control in my playing which was nice to hear. In general, a lot of amateur oboe players here are ridiculed for their lack of tone and control, so I want to prove that we're not all bad!
