I'm a bit hung up over my sound - while many have said they like my tone in that it's thick and fairly rounded, I'm not so keen on it myself. I find it too dull and want more edge.
The other day I tried some different reeds and a Rigoutat oboe which really freed up the sort of sound I'd kill for which was as near to Heinz Holliger's sound (and vibrato) as I could possibly emulate (but that's where things end), but I don't think too many people will welcome that.
What I might do at the next rehearsal is play with these different and vibrant reeds to start off with, then go back to my usual thick-toned reeds and see what others think.
Personally I prefer the more vibrant sound than the blending sound, but I should be able to both blend in and cut through as and when required. The other oboist has a very strident tone, so maybe the more vibrant, Holliger-esque tone is the one to concentrate on - after all, he is my favourite oboist of all time.
