No offense taken. I'm willing to put my reeds out there, and put photos out there, so I'm willing to take whatever critique people have of them.
Four months ago was a long time ago, and with colder wetter weather I might have done exactly what you said, but generally I would say I don't leave big fat rails. If I did, the gouge was probably a little too thin on the sides and so the fat rails compensated for them. I generally prefer to leave a thicker spine and scrape the rails thinner for more warmth and flexibility in the sound.
Meanwhile, I do scrape a lot out of the channels to get maximum vibrancy through them and into the back since a thicker spine deadens vibrations. This is a compromise between the two. Generally, my channels will go down as low as .45-.42 while the spine might be as thick as .55mm.
