... SHORTEST possible answer for newbies, 3 P's (practice, practice, practice)
:-) yes, love & adore oboe, suspect this instrument seductively selects all its players subconsciously, subliminally :-)
... bittersweet tough truth of love is ... love is unstable and unreliable by itself, it takes something else called hard work ... love makes the work (and pain) of becoming skilled on oboe seem sweeter and it's wunnerful ...
... many students don't love work, that significantly hinders progress, so
showing newbies the work ahead weeds out the wannabees from truly good oboist potential; some illustrious oboe teachers take away their good reeds and make 'em play bad reeds, same general principle
... when newbies are ready, elaborate ... must scatter seed-thoughts first ... next year ... "what was that thing about ... ?"
... when the chips are down and any oboe lover is frustrated, discouraged, dismayed, dejected, rejected (the downside of love), there has to be real grit inside to get back up and keep going, that's character, determination, perseverence ... not love
A-type personalities respond well to clearly defined goals
Truly good oboists are usually Ambitious
