I am playing swan lake in my youth orchestra. Although I know the music well, I find it difficult to stay on track of the music and listen across the group for the melody. Is this normal when preforming in a (well prepared) group or is it just the fact that (probably) about half the orchestra is learning during the rehearsal?
Also, when you find yourself in a poorly behaved group what do you do? I have a hard time hearing instructions because the other musicians keep randomly playing after we cut off. I can't quit because I love playing with such a large group, I just wish everyone would be quiet so we could actually make music.
