I find that playing C# (with the RH pinky) on my brand new Renard 555 English horn is very uncomfortable, even painful at times. It seems that the way you have to stretch your finger tendons does not agree with my hand. I also had this problem with my previous EH.
I also find it very difficult to land on C# from another note, especially if you're slurring to it. My ring finger always ends up grazing any of the other keys around it and ruining the passage.
Granted, I have not practiced EH a lot. I don't have this problem on oboe, but I think that because of its smaller size, the stretch is not as incendiary.
I just wanted to know how common this complaint is on English horn. I hope it's not just me.
