I've had a Yamaha 841 for about 5 years, and I love it. It's grenadilla, not kingwood.
The top joint did crack between the trills, but I had it pinned and have had no problems with it since. A friend at my undergrad had a Yamaha that kept cracking, and Yamaha replaced the top joint eventually; I can't remember if the new joint ever cracked or not.
The "hiss" was there when I bought the oboe, but I think it's mostly gone away, although I could just be used to it now. My teacher when I bought the oboe (who plays in Cleveland, so I think he knows what he's talking about) said that it usually goes away or at least lessens once broken in, and it's not audible at a distance. You might hear it, the oboist next to you might hear it, but beyond that, especially out in the hall, it's not an issue.
