I have played a couple and have come away with the same conclusions. The hiss that you hear is not in your head though. It is in the oboe. Apparently the Yamaha design is the same design for the Ferrillo model Loree. I only noticed the hiss on the left hand, G,A,B...and I kind of liked it, but didn't love it. The low register is a beaute, but the upper register sounds a little hollow, though I am sure that with some work this can be overcome.
I have been thinking about getting one in recent months, but have not really found one that I truly love yet.
