I think you've gotten some good advice. I would second (3rd? 4th?) the recommendation to keep the top joint warm under your arm during rests to keep it from cooling in the a/c. (It would help to guide this discussion if the original poster would tell us if it *is* an air conditioned environment we are discussing.)

One new thing to add -- the following technique doesn't prevent condensation, but it does allow you to play an exposed passage that uses the 2nd octave key you fear is flooded when there isn't enough time to take apart the top joint and swab: Just prior to entrance, take your reed out, close all holes with just the 2nd octave open, and blow forcefully a couple times. This will at least get you through the upcoming section.

Good luck. I wish I was at a summer music festival struggling with water in my second octave!
