Perhaps the best "permanent" solution for a wood oboe with gurgling in the octave vents (and the small A# and B# riser vents) is to coat the bore with 4-5 coats of Thompsons Waterseal over the course of 4-5 days.
The Waterseal is absorbed into the pores of the wood. It does not build up on the surface. Once treated, the moisture is shed- the pores of the wood have been filled and can not long absorb moisture. This treatment also very much helps in crack prevention as well. The preparation for this traetment is the hard part. Some keys must be removed so the aluminum foil can more easily be placed under each key cup. And the strips of aluminum foil must completly encircle the entire diameter of the instrument.
Once the strip is placed under the pad, and the tail of the stip is wrapped aound the joint, then the key must be forced down with a rubber bands. The rubber bands holding the key cups (pads) down MUST NOT be allowed to touch either the silver plating or the wood, as touching either will leave ugly black stains almost impossible to remove. When fully ready to receive the Waterseal, the oboe will look like a mummy of sorts. The Waterseal should be applied with pheasant feathers, just slightly greater in width than the diameter of the bore. Apply one coat (sozzle the Waterseal thoroughly throughout the bore), then place the joints upright against a wall at a slight angle to drain the excess onto a piece of cardboard. If when you remove the aluminum foil and rubber bands you discover a few sicky keys (usually the low C# and F resonance key) remove the key and clean the pad and tone hole rim with a cotton swab dipped in Isopropyl alcohol.
Sometimes this pad/rim cleaning process must be repeated a few times.
This is a proven process. I have never had an oboe instrument collect moisture in the vents after this Waterseal treatment has been accomplished.
