Well said, jhoyla. I think there's a grain of truth behind the dogma that one should always use "real" or "correct" fingerings. Students too often resort to simpler but musically inferior fingerings to mask basic technical deficiencies. And such shortcuts result it slower progress for those students. But there's something seriously wrong when some teachers/professionals get upset about other teachers/professionals (even advanced students) using short/trill/alternate fingerings when it makes more sense and helps achieve a better musical result.
