Great story, vboboe. I had a few similar experiences with teachers getting upset about my use of "false" fingerings is certain contexts. I've never understood that kind of opposition. I mean, we're already at such a disadvantage to string players, who get to create each note from scratch. So why shouldn't we make use of a fingering that helps us out a bit with the pitch or tone color that we want in a certain context? *shrugs*
One question, though... why do you call it a "military" fingering? That term's new to me.
