My German is much better than my reed making, so possibly some of these answers don't make sense, but I'll give it a shot.
1) Don't know, he doesn't explain this. (The beginning of the video seems be missing, unfortunately.)
2) He's talking about the "abstand", the gap or space - does that help??
3) no comment! I buy my cane ready shaped...
4) I would say that he is actually using a lot of tension when he's tying on - and he says at one point that he is 'pulling really really hard'
5) Not sure about that question! I can't really see how he does the cut. Do you mean he's taking a lot off at once (rather than doing lots of small scrapes)?
I'm not sure this would make any difference to the sound, would it? Wouldn't the sound come more from the relative thickness of the different areas of the reed?
One interesting thing is that when he does the base of the lay, he scrapes out a millimetre or two along the edge, which he says that you should be able to feel as a kind of ridge, and this is to get rid of the 'unwanted vibrations'. (If I've understood right.) I've not come across this before (but I am a beginner reedmaker!)
I'm now considering going and buying his video!
