I'm pretty sure it's a micrometer. Do you have a link to a density device? I checked the Mitutoyo web-site for anything similar, but found nothing. The device on the video looks almost exactly like this:

.60 mm is more-or-less standard thickness for the centerline measurement, also. The rotating collar seems to measure something else - the only thing I can think of is that it somehow changes the "business end" of the micrometer with something a lot sharper.
Do you (or anyone else) have any answers to the other questions? Are there any German-style reedmakers on this list?
