I'm in year 7 at a School in Australia. I've always had an obsession with the oboe, and when it was time to learn a new instrument, (Although I didn't give up piano....NO WAY!! 6th grade is just too far to give up..) I chose the oboe.
I looked everywhere in my oboe, rang up everyone. No oboe tutors :(
So I start the clarinet, have a little fun, but it's just a bit too mainstream for me 0.o
You'll never believe it. Two weeks after I start clarinet, the school gets an oboe teacher -_-. To my horror, my worst enemy had also signed up.
I'm going to quit clarinet in a few months, and start the oboe, but my real question in all this is should I go for something a little different. I was thinking along the d'amour/ Cor anglais lines. I've also been offered Basoon/ Bass Clarinet choices, but I really like the double reed family.
Another thing that I have been told is that the oboe is really hard and it is "a very high level instrument" to learn how to play at this age.
I'm 6th Grade piano, 4th Grade tenor recorder, 2nd grade soprano recorder and have lots of musical experience. Could anyone make any suggestions to something less popular, or the oboe because my heart really does belong to it...:)
thanks,
ol
