Mike, that was pretty impressive (this is the point where my teenage daughter tells me to 'get a life'), and I agree that to the extent that the double C crow can be thought of as a well made reed 'instrument' or at least as an acceptable standard point of departure, it's interesting that C is the basic note that creates the optimal vibrations for the other instrument (the oboe) to manipulate and elaborate, with some variation for the 'player' variable(s)...i guess i would suggest that the C crow should be viewed as the product of reedmaking evolution - i.e. over time, the standard staple (47mm), target reed length (69-71), and shaper dimensions (approx. 7mm at tip), have converged on this standard probably through trial and error and trying to achieve the optimal sound...i'm not smart enough to understand if a C crow goes with a C instrument or whether that's just a total coincidence...as for the actual physics, PhD thesis anyone?
