CJ,
I appreciate your point re using the Weber book..I actually have purchased a number of reed books and try to cherry-pick them..I learned to make reeds before there were any books from a single teacher (albeit a great one), so it's just a way to learn new tricks and improve my game. I like the Weber book, but I also really like Joseph Shalita's Ebook, downloadable online. There are also a lot of free reedmaking resources out there online if one takes the time to look for them (and I'd be happy to post them if anyone out there would like).
d-oboe,
your point is also well taken...however, what i love about the C crow methodology is that it allows me to get to a pretty good playable reed without even sticking the thing in my oboe, then refinements are quick and effective...but that may not be the preferred approach for others! btw, my teacher never talked about crowing the reed for pitch...the only trace of it i ever found was that little diagram he made on my method book!
