KML, I think it is great you are such a supportive music mom. Sounds like you are making a great start - I would really encourage you to seek out a teacher as soon as possible. I think all the usual methods of finding teachers have been mentioned (music stores, colleges, band director, local symphony).
I have many students who switched over from flute or clarinet, and most of them stay in the band program without any problems. But if your daughter isn't interested in playing in band for a while, that's fine too - the band method books are definately NOT created with oboe players in mind! (some better than others, of course)
You might want to see if there is a local Youth Orchestra, she may not be ready to play in it for a while, but it would be great to go hear them play (or any symphony for that matter) - band is great, but the symphony is where the oboe really gets to shine. They may also be able to recommend teachers, and perhaps she could meet other oboists her own age (usually there are only one or two in a band program, at least in my area!)
