You shouldn't march with an oboe at all! There's nowhere to fit a lyre onto an oboe - unless it hasn't got a bell key.

In the UK it's forbidden to use double reeds on marches, from what I've been told anyway. Apparently an oboist died when he crashed into the person in front, stabbing himself in the back of the throat with the reed and staple. could be a myth, I don't know. I do know that I definitely won't be marching with my oboe anyway - I usually do either alto or tenor sax on marches.

But the (Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force) marching bands in the UK never use double reeds - only piccolos, Eb and Bb clarinets, and alto and tenor (sometimes a bari sax) saxes in the wodwinds. Otherwise it's mostly cornets, tenor horns, euphoniums, trombones, basses and a corps of drums.
