My band director had me march with the oboe last year for a competition. (there was no oboe part so I had to pretend to play) In this particular competition there was a street marching and a field marching grade. I usually play marimba in the marching band so as not to damage the oboe. In the street marching I cut my upper lip with the reed. It was not good. This year I borrowed my friend's flute (she is no longer in band) and pretended to play with that. Maybe if the school has a clairnet or flute you could borrow you could do what I did and avoid injuring yourself.
