I agree- the slip matters. (Some people insist that they don't slip their reeds, but in reality, it will slip one way or the other - it's impossible to have cane that thin sit EXACTLY one blade on top of the other blade, and stay that way.)

If you ("you" being the author of this thread) tie with the thread going clockwise around the tube (looking from above) the slip should be so the top blade is to the right.

If you tie counterclockwise, then the bottom blade should be to the right.

So that's to say, if you tie clockwise, with a slip favouring counter CW motion, it could eventually slip the wrong way.
