I don't think it's mentally unhealthy to display a certain caution about a teacher sharing germs with students. If I was studying oboe with a teacher who was making my reeds for me, and I found out that she wasn't bothering to disinfect the reed even just a tiny bit by dipping them in Listerine or something before she gave them to me, I'd be seriously creeped out, and I am not a particularly mentally unhealthy or obsessive person. It's just common sense. Besides ordinary cold germs, there are things like cold sore viruses that I don't particularly want in my mouth. My husband gets cold sores, and when I kiss him when he's got an active one, I get a really sore throat the next day. But he's my husband, of 32 years, and sharing his germs goes with the territory. BUT, I definitely would not want to share my oboe teacher's cold sore viruses.
