>>> ... but hope i hear you correctly, glad you want to express yourself emotively in minor keys (some people hate & avoid minor keys) and glad you think oboe's a perfect instrument for you to do that, lots more air support to you :-) <<<
VBoboe,
I definitely won't avoid those minor keys. Way back when when I was first introduced to the oboe (mid-70s when I went to the symphony for the first time) it left an impression in my mind of being a melancholy-sounding instrument. But this is a good thing, at least for me personally. Know what it's like to listen to music that gives you chills and sends shivers up your spine? That's what that sound did to me...totally a preference thing. It was a major high actually. Hence, I have always been intrigued by this instrument and have always wanted to learn it and sound like *THAT*. I look forward to getting through these Gekler books, and then selecting some pieces of music that suit my tastes. Right now it's the fundamental stuff that builds the foundation, brick by brick. I plan on being well-rounded in this instrument and will learn stuff for ***all to enjoy*** but I think the "sad-sounding" stuff is going to be the stuff for me. Funny thing, I'm not a sad person...rather optimistic and happy. Guess it's a balance thing.
And the same to you -- lots of air support! And good luck to you! ;-)
Jay
