Lunga? Is that what it's called? Oh, hey, think i've seen some of those in some pre-renaissance stuff for recorder and i thought it was just another style of writing whole notes (breves), so that square note is actually a different time value called lunga which is 16 quavers (1/8 notes) = 8 crotchets (1/4 notes) = double breve (two white notes in brackets)?
Messiah has some breath-taking breves (( o )) such as last bars of And With His Stripes, All We Like Sheep, Lift Up Your Heads
Learned something really new today, and thanks for putting minim back in correct sequence :-)
