... aah, but isn't all this really the wonderful thing about oboe (and other double reeds) it's so versatile and flexible?
So what the trumpets are sharp? The flutes are sharp but not same as trumpets? The clarinets are flat? Hey, 'super oboe' can establish and hold the middle ground, no sweat, with trained left ear listening for "flat" and right ear for "sharp" and mental ear constantly adjusting to the middle of both?!

... younger ears are more perceptive than older ones
... younger ears don't have a clue yet that hearing changes with age
... older ears don't have a clue they're not hearing the same as when they were younger
= same difference
... on another note, just heard Gabriel's Oboe from The Mission yesterday and wow, that's one piece of music i gotta get ... now, if i already had "the ear" fully trained, i'd be playing it today, but as it is just now i'm looking for sheet music & need a recording as well to study it ...
