My Yamaha 411 was one of those hybrids. It was pretty well worry-free, I have to admit. But frankly, I don't see the benefit of having the wooden bottom joint.

I guess I'm of the school of thought that thinks the material of which the instrument is made is not nearly as important as the bore, tone-hole finishing, and keywork. Those aspects are a little more difficult to assess -- you have to rely on what the manufacturer tells you, and on the experience of the instrument as played.

When I sold my 411, I bought a used all-resin Loree, for playing circumstances in which I would not want to use my all-wood Covey (such as beating hot summer outdoor concerts and freezing cold winter pit work). While I do prefer the Covey when it counts, the all-resin Loree is a very serviceable instrument. I imagine the all-resin Fox is likewise a competent instrument.
